Prejudice concerns and interracial interactions

Whites and ethnic minorities are often concerned with how they will be evaluated and treated by out-group members during interethnic interactions. Whites are concerned that they will be perceived as prejudiced, biased, and closed-minded during such interactions. Ethnic minorities are concerned that they will be perceived in a stereotypical manner and will be the target of prejudice. I will discuss how these prejudice concerns result in divergent attributions about the self and other regarding why people avoid interethnic interactions. In addition, I will discuss how these prejudice concerns result in divergent experiences for the self and other during interethnic interactions.
