Judgments from Thin Slices of Behavior: The Role of Intuition and Deliberation

Lazenby Hall, Room 21, at 4:00 PM

Thursday April 5, 2001

How accurate are our first impressions? Evidence for

accuracy of judgments from "thin slices" or brief observations of behavior

will be presented. The boundaries and limits of such accuracy, both

within and across cultures, will be discussed. Finally, the role of a

number of different cognitive and affective processes that seem to affect

the accuracy of such judgments will be considered.
